Women's Volleyball Sweeps King, 3-0 To Advance To Conference Tournament Semifinal

Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Hannah Schellenberg hit .769, knocking down 20 kills, as the Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team advanced to the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of King this afternoon at the Wheeler Center. Set scores were 25-19, 25-22 and 25-13. The Abbey advances to the semifinal round Thursday at Erskine as it improves to 24-4, while King ends its season with a mark of 16-16.

Schellenberg knocked down 20 kills on 26 attacks with no errors, to go along with 12 digs as she posted her tenth double double of the year. Angela Jubb added nine kills and eight digs, while Lydia Schellenberg posted eight kills and a team-high 15 digs. Kay Schellenberg handed out 44 assists and also had seven digs as the Crusaders won the digs battle by a 54-44 count.

King was led by Summer Kremer's ten kills, the only Tornado player to reach double figures. Olivia Underwood handed out 30 assists. Libero Payton Tipton, the Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year, led all players with 17 digs.

The Crusaders advance to the semifinal round for the first time in school history as it travels to Due West for a Wednesday matchup. The Abbey won the only meeting between the two schools by a 3-1 score in Due West on November 3. The winner of that match will play for the Conference Carolinas Championship Saturday, November 17.
