Women's Volleyball Sweeps Converse, 3-0 For Eighth-Straight Win

Hannah and Lydia Schellenberg led the Abbey offense with 13 and 11 kills, respectively, as the Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team upped its winning streak to eight with a 3-0 sweep over the visiting Converse Valkyries this evening at the Wheeler Center. Scores were 25-12, 25-7 and 25-16. The win moves the Abbey's record to 17-3 overall and 9-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Valkyries remain winless at 0-19 overall and 0-9 in Conference Carolinas.

Coach DeJute's thoughts on the victory

Hannah Schellenberg led all players with 13 kills on 24 total attacks with just four errors (.375) while Lydia Schellenberg added 11 kills with just one error on 19 total attacks (.526). She also had eight digs. Older sister Kay Schellenberg posted 35 assists and registered seven digs. Angela Jubb knocked down eight kills and tied for the match-high, along with teammate Jacquelyn Grigsby, with 11 digs. Jubb added a block solo and a block assist. The Crusaders entered the match ranked third nationally in hitting percentage at .290, and finished with a .388 total tonight while winning the digs battle by a 48-29 count.

Converse hit just .046 as Kandace Griffin led the way with six kills. Katie Butler added five.
