Box Score

After surrendering a first half goal, the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team struck twice in the second half to secure a 2-1 Conference Carolinas road win at King College this afternoon. The victory ups the Crusader ledger to 4-6-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while King falls to 3-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play.

King struck first at the 12:15 mark as Jamie Grigsby fed Heidi Steiger for the score, and the Tornado kept their lead through the end of the first period, but it did not last long.

Just 15 minutes into the final period, Cassidy Coutinho knotted the game at one at the 59:34 mark when she walled through the King defense and beat Amanda Huffaker for her team-leading fifth goal of the year. Alana Ryczek was credited with the assist.

Seven minutes later, the Crusaders surged ahead when Kristin Foster fed the ball ahead to Silvia Vazquez, who chipped the ball over the defense to Ananda Gebreyesus, whose finish beat Huffaker for her first goal of the year.

The Abbey outshot King 26-11 and held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Hannah Kohls made one save, and the team was credited with one as the defense swatted a would-be King score off the goal line.
