Box Score Pfeiffer scored two first half goals around an Abbey strike by
Ross Smith as the Falcons closed their season with a 2-1 win over
the Crusaders this afternoon at Alumni Field. Pfeiffer picks up its
first win of the season as it ends the 2012 campaign with a record
of 1-15-2 overall and 1-8-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the
Abbey slips to 6-9 overall and 4-6 in Conference Carolinas.
Pfeiffer struck first at the 10:40 mark after an Abbey foul as
Corey Davis served a free kick from 35 yards out to the center of
the box, where Aldo Ramirez headed home the shot past Philip Bru
for the goal.
The lead lasted just four minutes, as Ross Smith, one of nine
seniors honored before the match, got behind the Falcons defense
and ran down a pass from Conor Wells. Smith beat his defender and
flipped a shot over the head of goalkeeper Christian Padilla and
into the net before a trailing Pfeiffer defender could get to
it.
The game stayed tied at one until shortly before the half when
the Falcons scored the winning goal at the 43:32 mark. Chandler
Ligas beat his defender and served a ball from the left flank to
the center of the box, where Jamie Sanclemente headed home the
winning goal.
Neither team scored in the final 45 minutes as the Abbey outshot
the Falcons 14-1 in the second half, and 24-7 for the match. The
Abbey also held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
