Box Score

Mount Olive defender Tanner Tolston headed home the only goal of the match at the 79:23 mark off of a corner kick from Tyler Vandevender to give the Trojans a 1-0 win over the Belmont Abbey men's soccer team this afternoon at Alumni Field. The victory ups the Mount Olive record to 5-8-2 overall and 3-4-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 6-7-0 overall and 4-4-0 in Conference Carolinas.

The Crusaders held the advantages in shots (9-6) and corner kicks (9-3), but it was Mount Olive that scored the only goal. In the 80th minute, Vandevender in swung a left-footed corner kick from the right side, which sailed over the first wave of players, but sailed to the head of Tolston, who raced in from the top of the 18 and leaped over everyone else and headed a shot past Philip Bru for the score.

The last ten minutes was a flurry of action both ways, as the Abbey pressed to try to even the score. The best Abbey chance in the final ten minutes came on Ameer Pinto's shot from just inside the box that was wide left by inches.

Bru made one save and the defense was credited with another as the back line swatted away a Mount Olive shot from the goal line after Bru came off his line. Mount Olive goalkeeper Nick Bernsdorf made one save.
