Box Score Belmont Abbey senior right back Alana Ryczek scored her first
goal of the year in the 53rd minute and the Crusader defense held
off a late Coker charge as the women's soccer team upped its
winning streak to four(the last three coming by shutout) with a 1-0
win over Coker this afternoon at Alumni Field. The win moves the
Abbey over .500 for the first time this season as it improves to
7-6-0 overall and 5-1-1 in Conference Carolinas, while
Coker slips to 3-9-1 overall and 2-4-0 in Conference
Carolinas.
The first half was evenly played as neither team had any serious
scoring chances, but that changed early in the second half as
Ryczek broke the scoreless tie at the 52:35 mark when she gathered
a blocked shot on the right flank and lofted a high, arcing shot
over the head of Lizz Morris, which dropped halfway down the side
netting for her first goal of the year.
Coker made a charge late, but the Crusader defense turned
away all scoring chances as the Abbey earned its third-straight
shutout.
Belmont Abbey outshot Coker 12-5 and held a 5-2 edge in corner
kicks.
