The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team suffered a 67-59 loss
to Erskine on Wednesday night to snap its three-game losing streak.
The loss drops the Abbey to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in Conference
Carolinas, while Erskine improves to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in
Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders started off slowly, trailing by as many as ten in
a first half, but an 18-8 spurt tied the game at 26 with three
minutes left in the half. An 8-2 Erskine run to close out the half
left the Crusaders trailing 34-28.
An Erskine three pointer to start the second half stretched its
advantage to nine. The Crusaders answered with an 8-0 run to cut
the deficit down to one, but the Flying Fleet responded with a 5-0
run to push the lead back to six. The Crusaders rallied to cut the
deficit back to one at 45-46 with 10:30 left in the game, but
Erskine used a 9-0 Erskine jaunt to seal the win as the Crusaders
trailed by no less than five the remainder of the contest with
final tally ending up 67-59.
Senior forward Paula Regalado and Alyx Ingram with led the Abbey
with 12 points each. Ingram also recorded a team-high seven
rebounds. Candace Fox contributed 11 points along with four
assists. The Crusaders shot 35 percent (21-60) from the field but
were just five of 17 (29 percent) from three-point range.
Erskine shot 36 percent (23-63) as senior guard Porsha Morgan
led all scorers with 22 points. She also had three assists and two
steals. Jana Dixon logged a double double with 14 points and 13
rebounds.
