Belmont Abbey junior guard Tyshawn Good scored 18 of his 25
points in the second half, and senior forward Kyle Phillips added
24 as the Crusaders men's basketball team earned a 79-59 win over
the visiting Erskine Flying Fleet this evening at the Wheeler
Center. The win ups the Abbey's mark to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in
Conference Carolinas, while Erskine slips to 3-12 overall and 1-5
in Conference Carolinas.
Phillips posted 16 first half points on eight of 11 shooting and
finished with 24 on ten of 16 shooting with six rebounds and two
steals. Good, who only totaled seven at the half on three of seven
shooting, exploded for 18 second half points as his final line read
nine of 15 from the floor, including three of four from three-point
range. He is the leading scorer in Conference Carolinas at 20.9
points per game. He entered the game leading Erskine's Corey
Sorrell by just four tenths of a point for the league lead. Matthew
Graves added ten points on three of five shooting, and he sank all
four of his free throw attempts. Terrone Sheffey posted two points
but totaled a game-high four assists. The Crusaders shot 50 percent
(29-58) from the field and were three of ten from three-point
range, with Good providing all of the team's total.
Erskine shot just 36.4 percent as DeShaun Hall led the Fleet
with 12 points on three of four shooting. Mike Gabbard added 11,
nine from the charity stripe.
Belmont Abbey never trailed and led by as many as 22 points in
the contest.
