The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team scored two first half goals and held off a late St. Andrews charge to secure a 2-1 Conference Carolinas win over the visiting Knights this afternoon at Alumni Field. The win snaps a three game Abbey losing streak.

The Abbey wasted no time getting on the board as Conor Wells scored on a beautiful bicycle kick goal. Ross Smith served a ball that got past the goalkeeeper, where Wells one-timed the bicycle from five yards out for the score.

The lead grew to 2-0 in the 27th minute as Jose Penaloza slammed home a free kick that sailed over the wall and into the upper left side of the goal.

Brandon Standrigdge cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal in the 76th minute, but the Abbey held off the Knights from there.

The Crusaders held a 17-6 advantage in shots and captured a 7-3 win in corner kicks.
