The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team scored two first half
goals and a stingy defense limited Limestone to just three shots as
the Crusaders moved to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas
with a 2-0 shutout of the Saints this afternoon in Gaffney, South
Carolina. Limestone drops to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in Conference
Carolinas. The Abbey has shutout both of its two conference
opponents in as many tries.
The Crusaders impressively outshot the Saints 20-3, including
9-2 in the first half when the goals were scored. Alana Ryczek
began the scoring in the 2th minute with her goal assisted by
Nicole Voets.
Later, in the 43rd minute, Limestone was whistled for a foul in
the box, which led to a Limestone player being sent off. Voets
buried the penalty kick to extend the lead to a pair.
The Crusaders kept up the offensive barrage in the second half,
outshooting Limestone 11-1 in the final 45 minutes.
Hannah Kohls made two saves to secure her second shutout of the
season.
After playing its first five matches on the road, the Abbey
opens the home schedule Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 when hosting
