In a contest in which three of the match's five goals were scored in the final 4:49, the Belmont Abbey men's soccer team had just enough to claim a key 3-2 road win at Pfeiffer this afternoon in the Conference Carolinas opener for both teams. The Crusaders 2011 ledger climbs to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Falcons dip to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas.

The Falcons outshot the Abbey 15-13 and attempted 12 corner kicks to just four for the Abbey, but it was the Crusaders Timmi Borges Da Silva who opened the scoring just ten minutes in with a beautiful tough angle goal, hitting the upper right corner of the net from the left goal line for his second goal in three matches. He has recorded at least a point in three-straight contests.

That was all of the scoring in the first half, in which the Crusaders outshot the Falcons 4-2. 14 minutes into the second half, Michael Valencia made it 2-0 in the 65th minute when he curled a shot from the left side into the upper right corner for his first goal of the year.

21 minutes later, Pfeiffer's Dale Ashford ignited a wild finish of three goals in just under five minutes when Kyle Toler sent a through ball to the top of the box, where Ashford's finish was true to pull the Falcons within one at 2-1.

The Abbey's one goal advantage was just that for exactly 28 seconds, when Ross Smith put the visitors edge back to two goals with a quick strike. Off a Belmont Abbey foul, two quick touches by Niko Andrade and Ashford found the foot of Taylor Scalera who ended scoring with his first of the season with just 28 ticks to go.
