The Belmont Abbey softball team was swept in a doubleheader at
Mars Hill, falling 3-0 in the opener and a 9-1 five inning loss in
game two. Mars Hill improves to 23-10, while the Crusaders drop to
10-18.
In game one, the Lions scored two runs in the third inning,
getting a leadoff homer by Amanda McArthur and a sacrifice fly from
catcher Jade Bullins that plated Ashley Seawell.
One inning later, Ashley Morris made it 3-0 with a solo home
run.
Hannah Morris picked up the win after tossing a three hit,
complete-game shutout. Sami Michaelis fell to 4-11 with the loss,
allowing three earned runs on five hits in three innings. Brittany
Southard gave up one hit in three innings of relief.
In the nightcap, Anna Smart tied the game at one in the top of
second with a homer, but Mars Hill responded by scoring the last
eight runs of the game, plating two in third and three in both the
fourth and fifth innings to earn the win.
Morris improved to 11-3. She surrendered one earned run on four
hits.
Emily Self dropped the decision, giving up four earned runs on
seven hits in three innings. Southard allowed five runs, four
earned, on five hits in one and two-third innings of relief.
