Women's Basketball Drops 64-50 Decision To Catawba

The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team led 26-24 at the half, but a 40-24 Catawba second half lifted the Indians past the Crusaders 64-50 this afternoon in the opening game of the OrthoCarolina Classic, hosted by Wingate University. Catawba moves to 5-4, while the Abbey falls to 3-5.

Brittaney Rice and McKenzie Owen both led the Crusaders with 12 points apiece, as Rice sank five of six field goals. Owen was six of nine from the floor. Paula Regalado added ten points and a team-high six rebounds. The Abbey shot 44 percent (22-50) from the field and made 12 of its 27 shots in the first half as it claimed a two-point halftime lead.

Belmont Abbey shot 43.5 percent in the final 20 minutes, but Catawba made just over half of its halftime shots (51 percent) as it outscored the Abbey 40-24 in the second half to pull away with the win.

Catawba was led by Chloe Bullock's game-high 19 points on seven of ten shooting. Dana Hicks added 13 and Nisha Long posted ten.
