The Belmont Abbey volleyball team closed out the 2011 regular
season with a 3-2 win over the visiting Limestone Saints before a
enthusiastic crowd of 275 this evening at the Wheeler Center. Set
scores were 18-25, 25-21, 27-25, 22-25 and 15-10. The Abbey ends
the regular season with a record of 18-14 overall and 10-8 in
Conference Carolinas, while Limestone, which closes the regular
season tomorrow at Lees-McRae, dips to 15-17 overall and 10-7 in
Conference Carolinas. The Abbey's 18 wins ties the school record
that was set last year.
The Abbey hit .155 for the match (60 kills, 33 errors on 174
total attacks) as junior Angela Jubb led the way with 14 kills.
Stefanie Holler, one of five seniors honored before the match,
added 11. Bria James and Lydia Schellenberg both posted nine. Kay
Schellenberg set a career-high with 44 assists.
Defensively Limestone won the dig battle 72-71 as Lydia
Schellenberg posted 18 and Jubb finished with 12 as she recorded a
double double. Holler posted four block assists, while Jubb
finished with three. Kay Schellenberg, Remick Tiller and James all
collected a pair of stops at the net.
Limestone hit .128 (54 kills, 32 errors on 172 total attacks) as
Jordan Preville led all players with 19 kills. Kassi Boedeker added
ten. Danielle Seibert handed out 48 assists an added two kills on
five attacks with zero errors.
The Lady Saints defense was led in digs by libero Rebecca
Kerrison's match-high 21, one of four Limestone players to reach
double figures. Holli Dawson posted 12 while Preville and Seibert
added 11. Brittany Harrison registered four total blocks, three
assisted and one solo. Both teams finished with eight total
blocks.
Seniors Holler, James, Sara Hallmark, Molly Gwaltney and Morgan
Hollars were honored prior to the match.
