The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team suffered their second
loss of the season as it dropped a 62-52 decision at Anderson
University on Tuesday night despite leading by as many as six in
the first half. The loss drops the Crusaders to 2-2 on the season.
Anderson improves to 2-4 with the win.
With the Crusaders ahead 25-19 Anderson went on a 10-0 run to
close the half and take a 29-25 lead into halftime. A Brittaney
Rice three pointer to start the second half cut the Abbey deficit
to one. A 17-2 Anderson run over six minutes pushed the lead to
46-30, its largest of the game. A late Abbey run cut the lead back
down to six with 44 seconds left in the contest, but two Anderson
layups pushed the final score to 62-52 to seal the win.
Rice and Melissa Foures led the balanced Abbey scoring with 10
points each. Foures also grabbed a team high eight rebounds.
Candace Fox contributed nine points to go along with team highs in
assists with four and steals with three. Kelsey Long also chipped
in nine points on four of seven shooting from the floor.
Belmont Abbey shot 41 percent (20-48) from the field and was
just five of 12 from three-point range. Anderson shot 38 percent
(23-60), but was 10-29 (34 percent) from beyond the arc.
