The Belmont Abbey volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat at Newberry this evening in a non-conference match. The Crusaders dropped the first two sets, but extended the match with a 25-20 win in set four. Newberry claimed a 25-20 win in the fourth set to clinch the victory. The Wolves went up 2-0 with 25-18 and 25-16 wins in sets one and two, respectively. Both teams are 8-9 on the year.

Bria James led the Abbey offense with 10 kills and 14 digs. She was the only Crusader to reach double figures in kills. Angela Jubb added seven and nine digs. Kay Schellenberg handed out 21 assists.

Defensively, Newberry outdug the Abbey 74-73 but Lydia Schellenberg led all players with 20. James added 14 while Kay Schellenberg posted 11 and libero Julianne Pisano collected ten.

Newberry's Samantha Parrish led all players with 14 kills as she and James were the only two players to record more than ten on the night.
