The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team outshot Brevard 25-3 as
three different Crusaders found the back of the net, including the
first career goal by senior defender Carly Kensinger, as the Abbey
women's soccer team earned a 4-0 shutout of the visiting Brevard
College Tornados this afternoon at Alumni Field. The win moves the
Abbey's ledger to 5-6, while the Tornados drop to 2-9.
Belmont Abbey took control of the match from the start as senior
midfielder Rebecca Mateo scored the first of her two goals in the
21st minute, banging home a rebound off of a Connie Axiotis saved
shot to put the homestanding Crusaders ahead for good.
That was all of the scoring until exactly 20 minutes left in the
contest, when Kensinger, in her 53rd career match, scored her first
career goal as she ran up on a failed Brevard clear and one-timed a
high, looping shot from 35 yards out over the head of goalkeeper
Crissy Moran and into the net for the goal.
11 minutes later Mateo struck again, grabbing a failed clear and
firing a shot from the top right corner of the box for her second
goal of the match and of the season.
Alana Ryczek closed the scoring in the 85th minute when a
Kristin Foster corner kick fell at her feet after banging off of
several players and she fired home the winner for the final goal of
the match.
In addition to the shots difference, the Crusaders attempted all
nine corner kicks in the contest. Hannah Kohls made two saves off
of shots from distance.
