O'Connell's Career-High 11 Kills Leads Volleyball Past Shaw, 3-1

Belmont Abbey sophomore Jaimee O'Connell knocked down a career-high 11 kills as the Crusaders volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Shaw this morning at the Mount Olive Volleyball Classic. The Crusaders won the first two sets 25-7 and 25-12 before falling to Shaw in the third set 25-23. All hopes for a Shaw rally were quelled in the fourth with the Crusaders coming out on top 25-19. The win improves the Crusaders to 14-12 on the year.

O'Connell, whose previous career-best was nine kills, led the Abbey with 11 and tied for the team lead in digs with Julianne Pisano as they recorded seven. Molly Gwaltney handed out 21 assists and Kay Schellenberg added nine. Sara Hallmark added seven kills on 14 attacks with two errors (.357). She added five digs. Stefanie Holler added six kills on 15 attacks with no errors (.400).

The Crusaders are back in action against Mount Olive at 3:00 p.m.
