Down two sets to none, the Belmont Abbey volleyball team forced
a fourth set, but King regained control of the match to earn a 3-1
Conference Carolinas volleyball win this evening at the Wheeler
Center. Set scores were 24-26, 17-25, 25-21 and 17-25. The win
improves King's record to 15-11 overall and 9-4 in Conference
Carolinas, while the Abbey's ledger evens at 12-12 overall and 7-6
in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey hit .186 for the match as Angela Jubb led the
Crusaders with 16 kills on 36 total attacks with four errors
(.333). She was the only Crusader to reach double figures. Bria
James added eight kills and Stefanie Holler posted seven. Kay
Schellenberg handed out 39 assists and posted two service errors.
James also had a pair of service errors.
The Crusaders logged 61 digs as Lydia Schellenberg's 17 tied for
the match high. James added 13 and Jubb added nine with two block
assists.
King posted a .252 attack as Ashley Pittman and Sarah Van
Goethem led the Tornado with 17 kills apiece. Van Goethem posted
just three errors on 44 total attacks (.318), while Pittman logged
seven miscues on 38 total attacks (.263). Setter Shannon Earwood
handed out 50 assists.
The Tornado won the dig battle with 72 as libero Payton Tipton
led all players with 17. Van Goethem added 16 and Joscelyn Knott
added 13.
