The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team fell to the visiting King Tornado 4-2 this afternoon at wet and windy Alumni Field in Conference Carolinas action. King scored the first four goals of the match before the Abbey cut the deficit in half with two late goals. King moves to 4-7-2 overall and 4-4-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey dips to 5-9-1 overall and 3-6-0 in Conference Carolinas.

King scored just once in the first half, as Zach Caraccilo sent a cross from the left sideline to the center of the box, where Matt Kilgus redirected the carom past Louis Liberatore for the score.

The Tornado held their lead through the first half and extended it just two minutes into the second half, as Joe Mayer weaved his way around the Abbey defense and finished with a strike to make the lead 2-0.

Ten minutes later, Zachary Clark struck off of a corner kick to widen the gap to 3-0, and Tom Winspear closed the scoring for the Tornados when he beat Serigo Ramirez on a penalty kick.

Belmont Abbey began to claw back with a Kyle Searles goal in the 75th minute, as Ross Smith sent a high pass from the right of the goal over to Searles, who headed home his first goal of the year.

Jose Penaloza capped off the scoring with just three seconds left in the contest, wrestling the ball away from several King defenders and scoring into an empty net for the score.

Both teams finished with 12 shots and the Crusaders held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
