The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team yielded a goal in the 14th
minute of the match and was never able to score the equalizer
despite numerous chances as it fell at Lees-McRae by a 1-0 score
this evening. Lees-McRae remains unbeaten in Conference Carolinas
with an 8-0 mark and a 9-2-1 overall ledger, while the Crusaders
slip to 7-7-0 overall and 6-2-0 in Conference Carolinas.
Lees-McRae outshot the Crusaders 13-5 and held a slight edge in
corner kicks (3-2) as it scored the only goal of the match at the
13:54 mark. Brooke Santerre headed a through ball up to MaryBeth
Sullivan, who got behind the Abbey defense and beat Hannah Kohls
for the score.
Belmont Abbey's best chance to score came in the 67th minute
when Carly Kensinger's shot was saved by Kaitlyn Briggs, the last
of her four saves on the night. Kohls collected three saves.
