Women's Soccer Edged At Mount Olive, 2-1

The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team fell at Mount Olive by a 2-1 score this afternoon at Amons Field in a Conference Carolinas matchup. The Crusaders suffer their first conference loss of the season as they drop to 4-6 overall and 4-1 in Conference Carolinas, while Mount Olive moves to 6-1-1 overall and 5-0-0 in Conference Carolinas. The win snaps a 20-match losing streak to the Crusaders.

Belmont Abbey dominated the match statistically, outshooting Mount Olive 18-9 and holding a 7-1 edge in corner kicks as Silvia Vazquez gave the Crusaders an early edge by splitting two Mount Olive defenders and finishing 11:46 into the first half. Ananda Gebreyesus was credited with an assist on the play.

The Abbey defense and goalkeeper Hannah Kohls shut down the Trojans until the 68th minute when Lindsey Stanley was able to sneak a goal off the left post to square the match at one.

In the 70th minute Lauren Tobin put Mount Olive ahead to stay with her unassisted goal. The Crusaders had several late chances to equalize, but could not find the back of the net as Mount Olive earned the win.
