Men's Soccer Downed At Mount Olive, 3-1

The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team fell at Mount Olive by a 3-1 score this evening. The Crusaders held a 1-0 lead through the first 77 minutes before the Trojans scored three goals in the last 12 minutes. The Crusaders fall to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while Mount Olive improved to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

The first half was scoreless as both teams played solid defense. The Crusaders were given a 1-0 lead when Jose Penaloza finished on a breakaway. Jack Reid was given credit for an assist on the play.

The Crusaders held a clean sheet until the 78th minute when the Trojans shocked the visitors with three goals in seven minutes. Vieux Sarr's centering pass found Murilo Pelegrino, who banged home the equalizer with a defender on his back from eight yards out.

Five minutes later, Pelegrino scored his second goal when his Sarr's centering pass bounced off of several bodies before it landed at Pelegrino's feet, who fired home the go-ahead goal. Sarr capped the flurry less than two minutes later when his breakaway found the right corner of the net to stretch the final tally to 3-1.

Mount Olive held the advantage in shots (18-8) and corner kicks (8-2).
