Down two sets to none, the Belmont Abbey volleyball team took
sets three and four to set up a fifth set, but Erskine claimed the
tiebreaker to earn a 3-2 win this evening in Due West, South
Carolina. Set scores were 18-25, 13-25, 25-20, 26-24 and 5-15.
Erskine moves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas, while
the Abbey suffers its first defeat, falling to 3-1 overall and 0-1
in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey hit .119 as junior Bria James led the Crusaders
with eight kills and two service aces. Sophomore Angela Jubb
contributed seven kills, while Steffanie Holler and Remick Tiller
both had five kills. Molly Gwaltney registered two service aces to
go along with 12 assists. Lydia Schellenberg added 13 assists and a
service ace.
Defensively, James led the Crusaders with eight digs, while
Julianne Pisano finished with seven. Freshman Victoria Jensen
posted five block assists while Holler, Jubb and Taryn Maymon all
had two each.
