The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team erased a 1-0 halftime lead by scoring three unanswered goals in the second half to claim a 3-1 win at Queens this evening at Marion Diehl Park. The Abbey moves to 3-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Royals drop to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas.

The Abbey outshot the Royals 13-11, including 9-8 in the first half, but Queens jumped ahead 1-0 early in the match as Jeremy Chambers scored on a deflected shot just 2:21 into the match.

Queens maintained its lead throughout the first half and into the early moments of the second half until the Abbey knotted the contest at one in the 63rd minute. Stuart Kirk dribbled down the right side and sent a cross into the box, right to Ross Smith, whose finish found the back of the net to tie the game at one.

1:52 later, the Abbey went ahead for good as Gianluca D'Agata sent a through ball to Mauricio Lopez. Lopez got behind the Royals defense and beat Queens goalkeeper Simen Walmann on a one-on-one for his first goal of the year.

Jose Penaloza added an insurance goal in the 89th minute, firing home a rebounded shot to put the finishing touches on the Abbey win.
