Belmont Abbey registered a .441 team attack as sophomore Angela
Jubb knocked down 17 kills with one error on 25 total attacks (.640
hitting percentage) as the Crusaders volleyball team won for the
fifth time in their last seven tries with a 3-0 sweep of the
visiting Converse College Valkyries this evening at the Wheeler
Center. Set scores were 24-20, 25-10 and 25-21. The Abbey moves to
10-4 overall and 3-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Valkyries
drop to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in Conference Carolinas.
Jubb led an Abbey offense that registered 49 kills with just
eight errors on 93 total attacks, as her 17 kills led all players.
Bria James added nine kills, and Lydia Schellenberg registered a
.533 attack, dropping eight kills on 15 total attacks with no
errors. She added six digs. Older sister Kay Schellenberg knocked
down two kills and handed out 42 assists and ten digs. The Abbey
won the digs battle by a healthy 42-32 advantage. Libero Julianne
Pisano led the Abbey with 11 digs.
The Crusaders saved their best offensive spurt for the third
set, logging a .517 attack (17 kills, two errors on 29 total
attacks) and held Converse to a .136 attack for the match (24
kills, 13 errors on 81 total attacks). Val Thoms led the Valkyries
with 11 kills, the only Converse player to have more than six. She
added eight digs and a block assist. Lauren Hunsberger handed out
12 assists. Libero Briana Scalf logged 12 digs, the only Valkyrie
to post more than eight.
Belmont Abbey is back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
when it goes on the road to face Limestone.
