Box score

The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team posted a 1-1 draw at Tusculum this evening in Greeneville, Tennessee. The Abbey scored its goal in the tenth minute and the Pioneers scored their goal in the 88th minute. Belmont Abbey is now 2-3-2, while Tusculum is 1-2-3.

Tusculum outshot the Crusaders 20-19, but the Abbey dominated the statistic in both overtimes, posting six shots to just three for Tusculum, including a 6-2 edge in double overtime.

Belmont Abbey struck first at the 9:15 mark when Jose Penaloza caromed home a header from six yards out, taking a pass from Matt Dolan. It was Penaloza's third goal of the year.

That was all of the scoring until there was 2:50 left in regulation when the Pioneers gained the equalizer. David Montes fired a shot off the near post that bounced in for his first goal of the year.

In the first extra period, Tusculum registered the only shot as Russell Sexton fired a blast high.

The second overtime saw Tusculum take the first shot of the period, but John Max Bolling made the save. In the 103rd minute, forward Ross Smith had a chance to end the game, but his shot was swatted away by a Pioneers defender at the goal mouth. One minute later, Conor Wells headed a ball on net that was saved by Andy Goellner. Wells had another opportunity with 54 seconds left, but his header was saved by Goellner.

Bolling made 11 saves for the Abbey, which finished with 12 as it was also credited with a team save.
