The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team received two goals from Matt
Dolan and Ross Smith as the Crusaders defeated the Saint Andrews
Presbyterian Knights 4-1 this afternoon in Laurinburg. The Abbey
moves to 2-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the
Knights drop to 0-6-0 overall and 0-3-0 in Conference
Carolinas.
The Abbey doubled up the Knights on the shots count (24-12) as
Dolan scored his first career goal in the ninth minute, finding the
back of the net on a breakaway after flagging down a pass from
Gianluca D'Agata.
18 minutes later, Ross Smith moved the advantage to 2-0 with a
one timer, getting an assist from Dolan and D'Agata. 14 minutes
later, Smith struck again, hammering home a shot from Stuart Kirk
at the 40:22 mark to widen the gap to 3-0.
The Knights pulled one back in the 54th minute as A.J. Roberts
fed Alex Smith for the goal, but the Crusaders got it right back
nine minutes later as Dolan scored for the second time, banging
home a rebound off of a save from William Willams. Conor Wells was
credited with the assist.
Belmont Abbey won the corner kick battle 6-1. Louis Liberatore
made three saves in the net before making way for Sergio Ramirez,
who collected one save in the final 20 minutes.
