Belmont Abbey freshman forward Emily Archer scored the only goal
of the match in the 15th minute as the 18th ranked Crusaders
women's soccer team moved to 7-0 with a 1-0 win over the visiting
Lees-McRae Bobcats this afternoon at Alumni Field. The Abbey's
record remains unblemished at 7-0 overall and 2-0 in Conference
Carolinas, while Lees-McRae drops to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in
Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey opened the scoring in the closing seconds of the
15th minute, tallying what would prove to be the contest's only
goal when Archer gathered a loose ball and beat the keeper from the
right-hand corner of the penalty area, sailing high shot over the
head of Brittany Bolton for the goal.
The Abbey was outshot 8-6 but held a 7-1 advantage in corner
kicks. Anna Donaldson made five saves.
Belmont Abbey is back in action Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
when it goes on the road to face Saint Andrews Presbyterian.
