The 24th-ranked Belmont Abbey women's soccer team scored six goals on eight shots as it remained unbeaten with a convincing 6-0 win over the visiting Coker Cobras this afternoon at Alumni Field in the Conference Carolinas opener for both teams. The Abbey moves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while Coker drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas.

Belmont Abbey registered all eight shots and all nine corner kicks as four different Crusaders found the back of the net, and received two Cobra own goals. Reigning Conference Player of the Year Connie Axiotis put the Crusaders on top in the 11th minute when she headed home a cross from Rebecca Mateo. 12 minutes later, the advantage grew to 2-0 as sophomore Kristin Foster lifted a ball over the Cobras defense, where freshman Emily Archer ran it down deked the goalkeeper and scored into an empty net.

The next two Crusader goals came via Coker own goals. On the first one, Mateo sent a cross to the center of the box where a Cobra defender redirected it into the net at the 47:13 mark. 17 minutes later, Coker again redirected an Abbey cross into its own net.

40 seconds later, freshman forward Ananda Gebreyesus scored her first career goal as she flagged down a pass from Alana Ryczek and beat the keeper. 14 minutes later, senior Kristin Voirin hammered home her first goal in two years off of a deflection.

The Abbey is back in action tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 when it goes on the road to face Carson-Newman.
