4/6/2010 12:00:00 AM

The Belmont Abbey softball team gained a split at Lees-McRae this afternoon, dropping the opener 3-0 and rallying to win game two 4-1. Lees-McRae is now 12-26 overall and 5-7 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey moves to 18-20 overall and 10-8 in Conference Carolinas. The Abbey's ten conference wins are the most since the 2007 season when it finished with a 10-10 conference slate.

"I'm happy that we played well in the second game and got the win," Head Coach Ellie Hanover said. "We just did not show up in the first game and have to do a better job of that. Hopefully we are out of our rut and I look forward to the team getting back on the winning track. It is crunch time now."

Magen West turned away the first 11 batters she faced before losing the perfect game and no-hitter. She finished the game going the distance with five strikeouts and no walks. She only allowed three hits, as well, to earn the win and improve to 10-14 overall.

The Lady Bobcats scored first in the first inning when Veronica Ollier singled and scored on a Paula Fryar RBI single to left.

Lees-McRae added two insurance runs in the fifth inning when Oliier started the inning off with a leadoff triple and scored on a Kim Coley RBI single. Coley came around the score on a single by Nicole Baxter.

Emily Self took the loss for the Abbey in the circle.

Ollier led the Lady Bobcats offensively by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Coley had two hits in four trips to plate with an RBI and a run scored.

In game two, the two teams stayed deadlock until the Abbey notched a run in the fifth when Kim Anders singled and scored on a double by Kasey Kerley to give the Abbey the 1-0 lead.

The Crusaders added three more runs in the sixth on a Lady Bobcat error, a single and three run home run by Anders.

Lees-McRae notched their only run in the seventh when Coley walked and scored on an Anna Carter sacrifice fly to give the game the final of 4-1.

Anders picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Crusaders by going seven innings and only allowing one hit. She also led the team offensively with two hits in three plate appearances, a run scored and three RBI.

Bryce Campbell was saddled with the loss for Lees-McRae.
