Belmont Abbey junior Bria James led three Crusaders in double
figures with a match-high 17 kills as the Abbey volleyball team
earned a 3-1 win at Converse this evening. Set scores were 25-17,
25-21, 22-25 and 26-24. The Abbey moves its record to 14-6 overall
and 7-3 in Conference Carolinas, while Converse drops to 3-15
overall and 2-9 in Conference Carolinas.
The Abbey hit .234 as James knocked down 17 kills on 37 attacks
with four errors (.351). She also added ten digs. Angela Jubb added
11 kills, while Remick Tiller posted 10 kills and 13 digs. Kay
Schellenberg handed out 43 assists to go along with six kills with
no errors on 16 attacks (.375).
Defensively, the Abbey won the digs battle 74-65 as Lydia
Schellenberg led the Crusaders with 15. Libero Juliane Pisano added
15. Jubb totaled two block assists.
Val Thoms led Converse with 16 kills and Katherine Buehler added
ten as the Valkyries hit just .152.
