The 17th-ranked Belmont Abbey women's soccer team scored three
goals in the firs 49 minutes as the Crusaders registered its eighth
clean sheet in ten matches with a convincing 3-0 win over Mount
Olive before a packed Homecoming crowd at Alumni Field. The Abbey
moves to 10-0-0 overall and 5-0-0 in Conference Carolinas, while
Mount Olive drops to 3-6-1 overall and 1-3 in Conference
Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey was never threatened as it controlled the match
from the start. Freshman forward Emily Archer put the Crusaders
ahead just eight minutes in as she tapped in a cross from Connie
Axiotis to give the Abbey a lead it would never lose.
13 minutes later, Kristin Voirin made it 2-0. Kristin Foster
sailed a corner kick that that went untouched all the way to the
far post, where Voirin was all alone and she poked the ball into
the net.
That was all of the scoring until the 49th minute when Foster
logged her second assist of the day, lobbing a corner kick to the
near post where Nicole Voets beat her mark and headed home the
winner.
The Abbey outshot Mount Olive 10-7 and held a 4-3 edge in corner
kicks. Anna Donaldson made two saves in the net.
