The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team picked up a key conference
win on Saturday afternoon at Huggins Field, defeating Erskine, 2-0.
The loss was the Fleet's fourth in a row and dropped them to 6-7 on
the season and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas play. Belmont Abbey
improved to 7-5-2 and 5-1-1 in Conference Carolinas. The Crusaders
have won five of its last six as the victory puts the Abbey in a
tie with Lees-McRae atop the Conference Carolinas standings.
Belmont Abbey scored a goal in each half as both Abbey scorers
found the back of the net for the first time in their
careers. Freshman Gianluca D'Agata struck first, finding the back
of the net at the 25:07 mark after he finished off a loose ball
that had been struck twice in the box by teammates.
The 1-0 lead lasted until the 70th minute when freshman Conor
Wells headed in Aaron Weldon's pass to put the Crusaders up
2-0.

Liberatore made four saves in getting the shutout.
