Women's Basketball Drops Conference Tilt At Mount Olive, 69-46

Mount Olive shot 49 percent from the field as four players reached double figures led by Andrea Jones's game-high 17 points in leading the Lady Trojans women's basketball team to a 69-46 win over the visiting Belmont Abbey Crusaders this evening at Kornegay Arena. Mount Olive claims its second-straight win as it moves to 4-4 overall and remains unbeaten in Conference play with a 3-0 record, while the Abbey falls to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in Conference Carolinas.

The opening half was evenly played, featuring five ties and six lead changes. Both teams recorded leads that reached as high as six points and Mount Olive claimed a 31-30 lead at the half. The Lady Trojans shot 55 percent (11-20) in the half to just 36 percent (9-25) for the Abbey, but the Crusaders kept it close with a 29 percent effort from three-point range to just 17 percent for Mount Olive. Both teams sank six free throws in the half.

The second half began with the Abbey keeping the Mount Olive advantage to six points through the first 11 minutes until Mount Olive closed the game on a 24-6 run over the final 8:53 to provide the winning margin. The Lady Trojans outscored the Abbey 38-16 in the second half.

Kelsey Daniel led the Abbey with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Shayla Jackson posted 10 points and six rebounds. The Crusaders finished with a 35 percent output shooting from the floor (16-46).

Jones led the Trojans with 17 points as Mount Olive shot 49 percent from the field (24-49). Helen Moore added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Laporsha Davis chipped in with 12. Alyssa Luebs recorded a double double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
