The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss at
Anderson this evening in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday
night at the AU Soccer Field. Anderson improves to 7-1-1 overall
and 3-1-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey dips to 4-4-1
overall and 2-3-0 in Conference Carolinas.
With the Trojans leading 1-0 at halftime, Paulo Passini wasted
little time extending the margin to two goals. Passini made a
great individual move to get around a Crusaders' defender in the
box and his left-footed shot sailed past the diving keeper and
found the back of the net.
The Crusaders cut the margin back to one goal midway through the
first half with a score by James Lawrence Forbes, putting pressure
on the Trojans. But Anderson responded to the threat a minute and
a half later to put the game out of reach. Jorgen Hals scored on a
right footer that crossed in front of the goal and snuck inside the
far post.
Morten Thorsen added an insurance goal with two minutes
remaining for the final three goal margin.
Anderson's Ben Jones fielded a cross from Hals at the 14:21 mark
of the first half and hammered the ball past the Crusaders' keeper
to give the Trojans a 1-0 edge.
Both teams had several first half shots that went wide, and each
team had hard struck shots that were stopped by the opposing
keeper. Lasse Sohrweide's shot midway through the half missed the
mark, and Belmont Abbey's Devon Purslow fired a laser that was
stopped by Anderson keeper Benjamin Pepion.
