Belmont Abbey sophomore forward Richard Barbee led all scorers
with 25 points as the Crusaders men's basketball team extended its
winning streak to seven-the third highest in school history-with a
convincing 88-69 triumph over the visiting Queens Royals this
evening at the Wheeler Center. The Abbey improves to 18-7 overall
and 14-4 in Conference Carolinas, while Queens falls to 6-19
overall and 5-13 in Conference Carolinas.
Barbee notched 25 points on nine of 14 shooting from the floor,
while pulling down five rebounds, one assist and a steal in 31
minutes. Chad Patus posted a double double with 19 points and ten
rebounds. Patus sank five of his ten field goal attempts and all
nine of his free throws. He also had four assists and a steal in 32
minutes. Senior guard Jonathan Jackson added 13 points, two assists
and a steal. The Abbey, which never trailed and led by as many as
28 points, shot 52.8 percent (28-53) from the floor. It built a
37-27 halftime edge and outscored the Royals 51-42 in the final 20
minutes.
Queens was led by Daniel Bailey's 18 points. He just missed
registering a double double with nine rebounds. Reggie Hopkins
added 15 points and five assists, while Patrick Fox contributed 11
as the Royals shot 44.8 percent (26-58) from the floor.
