Women's Basketball Edged At Brevard, 56-51

Belmont Abbey junior forward Shayla Jackson posted a double double 20 points and ten rebounds, but the Crusaders women's basketball team fell by five points at Brevard 56-51 this evening at Boshamer Gymnasium. Brevard improves to 4-4, while the Abbey falls to 3-2.

The Abbey shot 40 percent (20-50) from the field as Jackson's 20 points led the team, while senior guard Courtney Naquin posted ten. Jackson sank nine of her 14 field goal attempts and finished with ten rebounds, eight on the defensive glass, with three steals and a blocked shot in 37 minutes. Nine of Naquin's ten points came from three-point range, while dishing out a team-best six assists in all 40 minutes.

Brevard's Samantha Winn led all scorers with 23 points in 35 minutes, as she converted nine of her 15 field goal attempts with six rebounds. Holli Flippo added ten points as Brevard shot 42 percent (21-50) from the field.

The Tornados led 34-22 at the half, but the Abbey outscored Brevard 29-22 in the final stanza, but never regained the lead. The Crusaders pulled to within one at 50-49 with 3:03 left and again with 1:51 remaining, but Brevard scored the final four points of the game to pull away with the victory.
