Box Score Belmont Abbey junior guard Richard Barbee led all scorers with
30 points on a nearly perfect shooting effort as the Crusaders
men's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season
with an 85-75 win at Brevard this evening. The Abbey's record moves
to 4-3, while the Tornados slip to 5-2. Both of Brevard's losses
have come at the hands of the Abbey.
It is the fourth time in Barbee's career that he scored at least
30 points as he sank ten of his 13 attempts, including two of three
from three-point range, and sank eight of nine free throw attempts.
He was a perfect five for five from the field in the first half and
made his first six shots of the game as he led a trio of Crusaders
in double figures. He also had seven assists and two steals in just
28 minutes. Kyle Phillips added 13 points and Andre Fells added a
career-high ten points. Senior guard Patrick Kuhlman posted
nine.
Brevard was led by Josh Roper's 21 points and Jacques Dovonou
added 15.
The Crusaders led by as many as 22 points as it built a 50-31
halftime advantage behind Barbee's 13 points. Brevard outscored the
Crusaders 44-35 in the second half, but the Crusaders lead never
dipped below ten points.
The Abbey shot 52 percent (32-61) from the field while Brevard
shot 47 percent (25-53).
