Belmont Abbey senior forward Emmanual Yamson scored the only
goal of the match in the 63rd minute as the sixth-seeded Crusaders
men's soccer team upset the second-seeded Limestone Saints 1-0 this
afternoon in the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinal. The
Abbey, which advances to the final for the first time since 2005,
improves to 12-7-1, while the Saints fall to 13-5. It is the
third-straight season that the Abbey has eliminated the Saints on
their home field in the Conference Tournament.
The Crusaders were outshot 21-7, but only Yamson found the back
of the net on an unassisted tally at the 62:52 mark. He finished
with five of the Abbey's seven shots.
Goalkeeper Brandon Alvarez made nine crucial saves in the net,
including five in the second half.
The Abbey will play at either Lees-McRae or Coker in the
Tournament Final, which will take place Sunday afternoon at 1:00
p.m.
