The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team dropped its Conference Carolinas opener at Anderson 68-42 this evening. The Abbey falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas.

Belmont Abbey shot 27 percent from the floor as junior forward Shayla Jackson led the way with ten points on five of 13 shooting from the floor. She was the only Crusader to reach double figures. Senior guard Ashley Giddens added nine points and a game-high six steals in all 40 minutes. Asha Hardaway led the Crusaders with eight rebounds.

The Abbey trailed 21-17 at the half but was outscored 47-25 in the second half. Anderson shot 56 percent from the field as Alexa Neal led all scorers with 17 points on five of ten shooting from the field.
