Trailing two sets to none, the Belmont Abbey volleyball team
swept three straight sets from the visiting Limestone Saints to
claim a thrilling 3-2 win this evening at the Wheeler Center.
Scores were 18-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17 and 16-14. The Abbey
improves to 4-13 overall and 4-7 in Conference Carolinas, while the
Saints fall to 11-11 overall and 7-3 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey hit .139 (55 kills, 30 errors on 180 total
attacks) as Steffanie Holler led three Crusaders in double digit
kills with 17, while Bria James and Remick Tiller added 14 and 12,
respectively. Tiller recorded a .300 attack, posting 12 kills on 30
attacks with just three errors. Holler registered three of the
Abbey's eight service aces.
Defensively, the Crusaders notched 82 digs as Tiller and Kay
Schellenberg both had 18. Julianne Pisano and Taylor Stern both
added 12. Schellenberg handed out 46 assists from her setter
position. Holler with six total blocks recording three block solos
and three block assists.
Limestone, which hit .158 for the match, was led by Melissa
Thomas's 13 kills, while Holli Dawson added 12. Laura Kerrison, who
was battling an illness throughout the match, logged six kills and
26 assists. Danielle Siebert posted 16 assists and 12 digs. Chelsea
Anthony led all players with eight service aces.
The Saints were paced in digs by libero Brooke England's
match-high 26, while Dawson notched 17. Kerrison added 13 and
Seibert had 12 as Limestone finished with 93 on the evening.
