After dropping the first set 25-19, the Belmont Abbey volleyball
team roared back with three-straight set wins as it earned a 3-1
win over Mount Olive this afternoon at the Wheeler Center. Set
scores were 19-25, 25-20, 26-24 and 25-20. The Abbey improves to
6-16 overall and 6-9 in Conference Carolinas, while Mount Olive
slips to 12-16 overall and 11-4 in Conference Carolinas.
Mount Olive hit .370 in the opening set, but hit just .115 the
rest of the way, while the Abbey posted an opening set hitting
percentage of .154, but hit .184 in the final three sets as it
registered a .178 attack (45 kills, 24 errors on 118 total attacks)
while holding Mount Olive to a .168 attack (47 kills, 25 errors on
131 total attacks).
Steffanie Holler led the Abbey offense with a blistering .500
attack, knocking down 14 kills with just one error on 26 total
attacks. Her 14 kills led all players, and her three service aces
tied for the match high. Angela Jubb added nine kills, while Kay
Schellenberg posted eight with 32 assists and a pair of service
aces.
Defensively, the Abbey won the dig battle 55-42 as Bria James
led the way with 11, while Schellenberg, Julianne Pisano and Taylor
Stern each had eight. Jubb posted three block assists, while
Jennifer Angelich had a pair. James, Jubb and Morgan Kirby each had
one block solo.
Mount Olive was led by Christiane Maul and Alicia Mote, who both
had 11 kills, while Racey Bartley finished with ten. Mote
registered a double double with 13 digs to lead all players. Joanie
Werling handed out 42 assists and posted three service aces.
Werling was responsible for five of the Trojans ten total blocks,
recording three block assists and two block solos, while Bartley
had two block assists and a block solo.
