The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team closed out the 2009
regular season with a 1-0 loss to the visiting Erskine College
Flying Fleet this afternoon at Alumni Field. Erskine improves to
7-9-1 overall and 4-6-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey,
which will enter next week's tournament as the number one seed,
drops to 11-5 overall and 9-2 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey outshot Erskine 10-2 and held a 12-1 advantage in
corner kicks, but the Fleet scored the only goal of the match in
the 63rd minute as Emily Brown tapped in a shot from two yards out
off of a cross from Lindsay Patterson.
The Abbey pushed forward in the final minutes, but could not
find the back of the net.
Belmont Abbey, as the top seed, will host eighth-seeded Mount
Olive Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the opening round of the
Conference Carolinas Tournament.
