The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team earned a key 2-0 win over
the visiting Barton Bulldogs this afternoon before a solid
homecoming crowd of over 600 this afternoon at Alumni Field. The
Abbey improves to 5-4-1 overall and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas,
while the Bulldogs fall to 3-8-0 overall and 1-4 in Conference
Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey outshot Barton 15-7 as James Lawrence Forbes put
the Abbey ahead 1-0 in the sixth minute, taking a feed from Devon
Purslow and beating Brian Reisenberg for the goal.
That would be all of the scoring until the 84:11 mark when Aaron
Weldon gave the Abbey an insurance goal. Senior forward Emmanual
Yamson intercepted a pass at midfield and streaked down the left
side, where he fed Weldon, who was 30 yards from goal. Weldon took
two dribbles and fired a low blast into the lower left corner of
the net to up the lead to 2-0, which was the final.
