Box score
Five different players scored two goals as Alexa Hale led the
way with a pair, as the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team improved
to 10-3 with an easy 6-0 win over the visiting Chowan University
Hawks this afternoon at Alumni Field.
Belmont Abbey outshot Chowan 30-0 as four of the Crusaders goals
came in the final 21 minutes. Alana Ryczek put the Abbey on top at
exactly 21:00 as Nicole Voets sent a long pass down the left
sideline to Connie Axiotis, who fired a cross to the center of the
box where Ryczek tapped home a one-time winner.
The Abbey took its 1-0 lead into the half, and Voets made it 2-0
at 54:18 as Axiotis sent a cross from the left side, where Voets
connected on a high arcing shot.
After assising on the first two goals, Axiotis scored one
herself in the 62nd minute on an unassisted tally. She chased down
a loose ball just outside of the Chowan box, beat goalkeeper
Kristy Brown and shot into an empty net for her twelfth goal of the
year.
19 minutes later, Hale found the back of the net for the first
of her two goals, as Ashley Erskine sailed a high pass to the left
of the goal, where Hale one timed a volley past Brown for the
winner.
Erika Trivisonno made it 5-0 just six minutes later, as
Stephanie Avila fed her a pass to the right of the goal, dribbled
two yards and let fly a shot that caromed off the left goalpost and
into the back of the net.
46 seconds later, Hale closed the scoring on an exact carbon
copy of Trivisonno's tally, connecting on a shot from the right of
the box that bounced off the left post and in.
