Belmont Abbey sophomore forward Connie Axiotis and freshman
midfielder Alana Ryczek both registered hat tricks, as they were
among seven Crusaders to score goals at the Abbey recorded an easy
12-0 win at Coker this evening. The Abbey improves to 8-3 overall
and 7-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Lady Cobras remain
winless at 0-12-0 overall and 0-10-0 in Conference Carolinas.
The Abbey outshot Coker 26-3 and built a 5-0 halftime lead,
scoring all five goals in the first 18:47, on the strength of 14
shots as Celene Molera put the Abbey ahead just 4:02 into the
match. Just over five minutes later, Rebecca Mateo made it 2-0 off
of an assist from Ryczek. After an own goal by Coker, Ryczek upped
the advantage to 3-0 at the 13:43 mark with the first of her three
goals, scoring off of one of the Abbey's nine corner kicks. Axiotis
closed the first half scoring at the 18:47 mark. The Crusaders
outshot Coker 14-1 in the opening stanza.
Belmont Abbey scored seven times in the second half, the first
coming in the 49th minute on a breakaway goal by Jessica Reynolds,
getting an assist from Mateo. Less than three minutes later, Ryczek
fed Axiotis for her second goal of the afternoon. Seven minutes
later, at the 58:27 mark, Axiotis scored for the third and final
time on an unassisted goal. Axiotis now has nine goals in her last
three matches and has 11 for the season.
Two minutes later, Brandi Clark scored off an assist from Erika
Trivisonno, and six minutes after that, Alli Zingo fed Stephanie
Avila to up the lead to 9-0. Ryczek closed the scoring with the
final two goals of the match, the first at 84:36 on a breakaway,
and the final one at 87:47 on a header. She finished the day with
three goals on five shots and two assists. Axiotis had three goals
on six shots.
