The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team suffered its first
Conference Carolinas loss this evening as it fell 73-60 to visiting
Mount Olive College at the Wheeler Center. The Abbey is now 5-4
overall and 3-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Trojans improve
to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas.
Abbey sophomore forward Shayla Jackson led three Crusaders in
double figures with 16 points on 7-16 shooting from the field. She
also had eight rebounds, two assists and four steals in 33 minutes.
Courtney Naquin added 12 points, four rebounds and a steal, while
Ashley Giddens finished with ten points, two assists and four
steals. Kelsey Daniel led the way with six assists to go along with
seven points. Belmont Abbey shot 36.7 percent (22-60) from the
floor.
Mount Olive shot 46.4 percent (26-56) as Jasmine Whitby led five
Trojans in double figures with 17 points and seven rebounds.
Brittney Robich added 13 points, including a perfect 7-7 effort
from the free throw line, while leading all players with eight
assists. Tomkea Pritchard added 12 points on 5-10 shooting from
the floor, while registering three steals and two blocked shots in
26 minutes. Shequanta McGee and Alisa Jones both finished with 11
points, with Jones recording a double double with 16 rebounds, 13
on the defensive glass. Both teams finished with 37 rebounds
apiece.
The Abbey is back in action Saturday afternoon at 2:00 when it
hosts Converse at the Wheeler Center.
