Despite four players reaching double figures, the Belmont Abbey
women's basketball team fell at Catawba 93-65 this afternoon at
Goodwin Gym in its final non-conference game of the year. Catawba
improves to 8-4, while the Crusaders dip to 4-3.
Belmont Abbey shot 41.4 percent (24-58) from the field as
sophomore guard Amanda McDonald led a quartet of Crusaders in
double figures with 14 points. She added two assists and a steal in
31 minutes. Sophomore forward Shayla Jackson added 13 points and
five rebounds, while posting three assists, two blocked shots and
two steals. Junior guard Courtney Naquin added 11 points, four
assists and a pair of steals and Kala Nwachukwu chipped in with ten
points on 4-5 shooting from the floor, while adding six rebounds,
two blocks and an assist in just 14 minutes.
Catawba had four players reach double figures, as Brittany
Higgins and Dana Hicks both finished with 15 points. Cameron Clark
added 14 and Brooke Whitley finished with ten as the Indians shot
52.2 percent (36-69) from the floor.
