Men's Basketball Edged At Anderson, 99-93

Belmont Abbey sophomore guard Richard Barbee led all scorers with 27 points, but the Crusaders men's basketball team fell at Anderson 99-93 this evening at Abney Gym. Anderson improves to 10-8 overall and 8-3 in Conference Carolinas, while the Crusaders, which had their two-game winning streak snapped, falls to 10-6 overall and 7-3 in Conference Carolinas.

Barbee, one of four Crusaders in double figures led all scorers with 27 points on 12-18 shooting from the field, while pulling down four rebounds, handing out three assists and recording a steal in 37 minutes. Senior guard Jonathan Jackson added 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 36 minutes. Junior center Alex Pledger posted a double double with 14 points, ten rebounds in just 25 minutes, and Chad Patus nearly missed a double double with 11 points and nine rebounds, five on the offensive glass, in 30 minutes. The Abbey shot 55 percent (26-47) from the floor, including a 58 percent effort (11-19) in the second half.

Anderson, which trailed 49-37 at the half, exploded for a 73 percent shooting effort (16-22) in the second half as Brandon Young led the Trojans with 23 points, while Stephen Cobb and Nick Trull added 22 and 21, respectively. The Trojans shot 57 percent (24-42) for the game.
